A little about me

About me About me: As you will know from the welcome page, my name is Lee Wood, owner of this website. I am 28 years young, and am now resident in Denmark and have been living here since 2002. I am originally from Ipswich in England, but moved to Denmark in 2002 for pastures new.
My fishing career started when I was 9/10 years old with a kingfisher 6’’ fibreglass rod and tiny reel from Argos. Unfortunately this rod snapped very quickly, but when my parents could see that both I and my brother wanted to take fishing up seriously, we both got a fishing rod each as a Christmas present. That was where it all started, and many years on I am still enjoying my fishing, although nowadays it’s not as much as I would like too!
My favorite fishing lake was Needham Lake in Suffolk back in my younger days, and would often take part in the junior competitions, the controlling club had arranged. As we got better, both my brother and I ended up taking part in the”adult” matches as well as the junior competitions. Nearly every weekend I and my brother were taken to the lake by our parents to take part in a competition. We loved it, and were very successful as well! We were fishing mad!
Eventually we both got chosen for fishing for Suffolk County in some matches, although my brother took part in more of those than I did, as I was now ending my school career and looking for work. My first place of work was the perfect work for a fishing mad teenager like myself, a tackle shop!
Birds Tackle in Suffolk, where I worked for 5 years, however it was not an easy time for my fishing career. To be honest, after the first 2/3 years I actually got tired of fishing, and ended up leaving the fishing gear in the cupboard for a whole year, taking up golf instead. I think a part of the reason was when I was on the bank fishing, due to working at the tackle shop I was well known by the local community. This meant that whilst fishing I would often hear”hi mate, how much is this, that and so on” which on your day off, you soon get fed up of. In the end I would just politely say”I am off today, so I don’t know”… Mixing your hobby and work together is perhaps not the best thing to do, as it does affect your want to continue your hobby.
In 2002 I moved to Denmark, one of the biggest decisions I had ever made on my own two feet. By this time, it was no secret that I was getting fed up of my job in the tackle shop, so this was an opportunity to start again, pastures new. The move when relatively easy, however the first year in Denmark was perhaps the worst year I had ever had, due to unsuccessfully securing employment. Having always had control over my own economy, it was very hard for me to accept help from others, but its not really like I had any choice at the time. In the end I ended up taking 2 paper round routes just so that I could get some money in my pocket that was my own. At the same time I was going to language school.
About a year later I managed to secure work at an local timber yard, albeit a summer job. 6½ years on, I am still there, working in the sales-office after a breif stint in the warehouse (5½years to be exact).
In the time I have lived here in Denmark, I have been fishing plenty of times, unfornately the fishing has gotten harder and harder over the years, and the traditional places like Skanderborg Lake etc have gone down hill since I moved here. But that just means we have to find other places to fish, and fish for more untraditionel species such as Carp which isn’t typically “danish.” When I am not fishing or working, then you will probably find me with my girlfreind Tina, or in front of a computer of some sort. Aswell as being an fishing buff, I am a total computer/technology nerd, so when the weather is bad, this is usually where I am.
Anyways, I think that’s about it for this section, without writing a novel at least. Enjoy the webiste, and watch out for all the new content I have planned for the new look Fishyworld.
